The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in education, describing the recruitment of thousands of teachers and expansion of learning infrastructure as a major boost to human capital development.
Education Minister, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, gave the commendation during the presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators in Kano State.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alausa urged the new employees to embrace professionalism and remain committed to delivering quality education, stressing that teachers occupy a pivotal position in shaping the nation’s future.
A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, on Monday, said the minister described educators as the foundation of every successful society, noting that the quality of teaching directly influences national development.
“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well. That is how we can derive full value from the opportunities that the Governor has given you,” the Minister said.
The minister reminded the beneficiaries that they had been entrusted with a significant responsibility and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them through dedication, excellence and effective classroom instruction.
He added that “much is given, much is expected.”
Alausa also praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education, noting that the state’s decision to allocate 32 per cent of its budget to the sector reflects a strong commitment to developing human capital.
According to him, the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators in the latest exercise, bringing the total number employed by the administration to about 16,000 within three years, ranks among the most remarkable interventions in the education sector by any state government.
“In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like. These are investments that will produce responsible citizens who will serve Kano State, Nigeria and the world,” he stated.
The minister further applauded the state government’s wider development initiatives, citing ongoing road reconstruction projects and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across Kano metropolis as evidence of purposeful leadership.
He said the achievements complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrate the gains that can be achieved when governments prioritise education and people-centred policies.
“The future of Nigeria is bright. Kano State has aligned fully with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development agenda, and the progress we have witnessed here demonstrates what is possible when leadership places education and people at the centre of governance,” he added.
Earlier, Alausa visited the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven learning nationwide. He described smart schools as a key component of ongoing education reforms designed to equip learners with skills needed for the modern economy.
The minister also inspected projects at Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, which is expected to improve access to quality education for girls in the state.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf described the issuance of appointment letters as another milestone in his administration’s education reform programme, saying the initiative was aimed at securing a brighter future for children across the state.
He explained that the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers alongside 3,688 BESDA Cohort V facilitators underscores the government’s determination to ensure schools are staffed with qualified and committed personnel capable of improving learning outcomes.
The governor reaffirmed that education remains at the centre of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that every child deserves access to quality teaching and a conducive learning environment.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their continued support, while commending Minister Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and development partners for their contributions to strengthening the education sector.
