The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has extended the deadline for the submission of textbooks and other instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise to August 7, 2026, declaring that no further extension will be granted.
The extension, approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, replaces the earlier closing date of July 3, 2026, and is aimed at allowing more publishers, authors and other stakeholders in the book industry to participate in the nationwide textbook evaluation exercise.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, who said the Council approved the extension to give eligible participants additional time to complete and submit their instructional materials.
According to the statement, “This final extension is being granted to ensure broader participation and provide publishers, authors, and other eligible stakeholders with an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for participation in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise.”
The Council urged all intending participants to make use of the extension by ensuring that their submissions comply fully with the approved procedures contained in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines.
NERDC noted that the submission guidelines remain unchanged and are available on its official website for interested publishers and authors.
It, however, stressed that the new deadline is final, warning that materials submitted after August 7 would not be considered.
“No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the Council stated.
NERDC also appreciated publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation, urging them to submit their materials within the stipulated timeframe to ensure a seamless assessment and ranking process.
