The Ebonyi State Examination Development Centre (EDC) has eliminated the long-standing backlog in the issuance of First School Leaving Certificates and fully digitalised its operations, marking a major milestone in the state’s education sector.
The Registrar of the Centre, Dr. Lawrence Otusinkama, disclosed this while receiving members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education, led by its Chairman, Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, during an oversight visit to the Centre.
Dr. Otusinkama attributed the achievements to reforms introduced under his leadership and the support of the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. He said the Centre now releases examination results and First School Leaving Certificates within 30 days after the conduct of examinations, bringing an end to years of delays that previously hindered candidates’ academic progression.
According to the Registrar, the reforms have transformed the Centre’s operations and restored public confidence in the state’s examination system.
“These reforms have enabled candidates to proceed to the next stage of their academic journey without unnecessary delays. Under Governor Nwifuru, the Centre has witnessed a remarkable turnaround that has restored public trust in Ebonyi State’s examination system,” he said.
Dr. Otusinkama recalled that state-conducted examinations were once greeted with widespread scepticism. However, he noted that the present administration’s emphasis on transparency, standardisation and credibility has repositioned the examinations as trusted qualifications valued by parents, schools and candidates.
He further stated that the Centre has maintained affordable examination fees while strictly adhering to its approved examination calendar. He added that the State Government has continued to support the Centre through the provision of operational logistics, including a Sienna bus, as well as sustained institutional backing.
The Registrar assured the people of Ebonyi State that the Centre would continue to improve service delivery and maintain the high standards already achieved.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, said the oversight visit was part of the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to assess the Centre’s performance, review its achievements and identify areas requiring legislative support.
He stressed that the visit was not intended to witch-hunt any official but to strengthen institutional performance in line with Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs policy on education.
Nwodo commended Dr. Otusinkama for his innovative leadership and administrative competence, describing the transformation of the Examination Development Centre as evidence of purposeful management. He also praised Governor Nwifuru for prioritising education and providing the necessary support that has repositioned the Centre for greater efficiency.
Also speaking, the Deputy Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly,Joseph Ununu, and the member representing Edda East Constituency,Stephen Orji Igwe, applauded the Registrar for his pragmatic leadership and sustained efforts to strengthen examination administration in the state.
In her vote of thanks, the Centre’s Accountant, Mrs. Anthonia Nwankwo, expressed appreciation to the House Committee on Education for the oversight visit and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to delivering efficient, transparent and quality examination services to the people of Ebonyi State.
