The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its members and the general public to disregard the various primary election results currently circulating on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the authentic outcome of its nationwide primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC said the results of the primaries conducted across the country on May 28 and 29, 2026, remain under the custody of the NEC and have not been officially released.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement said.
According to the party, all official results are currently before the NEC, which is solely responsible for ratifying and announcing the outcome of the exercise.
The party further disclosed that, on the directive of its National Leader, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, a meeting of the National Executive Council has been convened to deliberate on the primaries and other party matters.
As part of the arrangements, all NEC members have been directed to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, while the substantive NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results,” the statement added.
The NDC assured party faithful and stakeholders that the authentic results of the primaries would be made public after due consideration by the NEC and ahead of the submission of the names of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The clarification comes amid widespread speculation and the circulation of multiple lists on social media purportedly containing the names of candidates who emerged from the party’s presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries.
Party officials said the NEC meeting would provide the final platform for the review and formal adoption of the primary election outcomes before the candidates are officially unveiled.
The NDC reiterated its commitment to transparency and due process, urging members to await official communication from the party’s leadership.
