Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, on Thursday received the leadership of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) on a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly, where both parties discussed the role of responsible digital journalism in promoting good governance and national development.
The GOMEP-NG delegation was led by its newly elected Chairman, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, who led discussions centred on advancing ethical journalism, strengthening responsible digital media practice, and fostering constructive collaboration between the media and public institutions.
Senator Dafinone described the engagement as timely and commended the Guild’s commitment to promoting professionalism and ethical standards in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital media landscape. He noted that responsible journalism remains a vital pillar of democracy, transparency, and accountability.
The lawmaker also emphasized the importance of collaboration between policymakers and the media in driving informed public discourse and supporting sustainable national development.
During the visit, GOMEP-NG presented Senator Dafinone with its Award of Recognition in appreciation of his contributions and commitment to public service.
Expressing his gratitude, Senator Dafinone said he was honoured by the recognition and thanked the Guild for the thoughtful gesture and cordial visit.
“I am honoured to receive GOMEP-NG’s Award of Recognition and sincerely appreciate the Guild for this thoughtful honour and the cordial visit,” he said.
