Osun Guber: BON commends INEC over transparent exercise

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has congratulates Prof. Joash Akin Amupitan and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of a transparent, free, fair, and credible governorship election in Osun State.

Recall that the Commission conducted an off-cycle election in Osun state last Saturday and the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke was re-elected for a second tenure.

In a statement signed by it’s Executive Secretary, Yemisi Bamgbose on Wednesday, BON commended for the timely delivery of election results and transparent conduct of he entire exercise. It added that INEC passed a litmus test and has strengthened the faith of he electorate in the electoral process.

“The Osun State Governorship election” BON said, “was the real litmus test for INEC. The outcome, if improved upon, could serve as a model for subsequent elections in the country.

“INEC deserves commendation for deploying all that was required to ensure the realisation of a free and fair election”.
The organisation also commended security agencies for providing adequate security, which helped to minimise tension and criminality during the election.

They called on the commission to come hard on those arrested for compromising the electoral process to serve as deterrent to others.

“It is imperative that INEC ensures the prosecution of all persons who perpetrated electoral crimes, to serve as a deterrent to others”.

BON called on INEC and other relevant agencies to ensure strict enforcement of electoral laws and prosecution of all offenders.
