The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026 as a public holiday in honour of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him.

The holiday was announced by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued through Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.

The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion.

He said Eid-ul-Mawlid “gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.”

Tunji-Ojo urged all Nigerians to reflect on those values, describing them as qualities the nation needs at this time.

He also called on citizens to use the period to pray for peace and cohesion, stressing that national unity is a collective duty.

The Minister advised that the celebration should be marked with restraint and mutual respect, while wishing Muslims a peaceful Eid.
