Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, has commended Hausa Youth Ghana for promoting the Hausa language, culture and heritage, describing the effort as a significant contribution to strengthening Ghana-Nigeria relations.
Senator Barau made the commendation at the weekend during the World Hausa Day 2026 celebration held at the Forecourt of the State House, Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana.
He was accompanied by Senator Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, Chairman Senate Committee on Army and Northern Senators Forum; Senator Muntari Dandutse, Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND; and Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, Chairman Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education.
In the statement issued by Ismail Mudashir, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Senator Barau said the initiative by Hausa Youth Ghana showcases the role of young people in preserving cultural identity outside their home country.
“Ghana and Nigeria share a long history of interaction in trade, education, migration, culture and diplomacy. The Hausa community in Ghana has also continued to make meaningful contributions to the social and economic development of the country while preserving its cultural heritage,” he said.
The Deputy Senate President described World Hausa Day as a platform for promoting friendship, unity and mutual understanding among communities, and extended warm greetings to the Government and people of Ghana.
He urged the youth to channel their pride in heritage towards building a better future by embracing education, innovation and entrepreneurship.
As part of his commitment to education and language preservation, Senator Barau announced scholarships for two members of the Hausa community in Ghana to study Hausa Language at Nigerian universities.
