Deekay Group of Companies, partnering with Aksara Foundation, has donated home appliances and educational essentials to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), thereby narrowing the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gap in the private sector and delivering sustained impact in public institutions and vulnerable groups.
Items donated to the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) Department of LUTH include tubular batteries, inverter equipment, a TV set, a fridge, and educational essentials.
They are expected to provide basic conveniences in the duty call rooms used by resident doctors, who often remain in the hospital for extended periods while responding to patients’ needs.
The intervention, according to the company, aimed at improving the welfare and working environment of resident doctors who spend long hours at the hospital attending to patients.
Speaking during the presentation, the representative of Deekay Group of Companies, Ejiofor Doris, said the donation was driven by the company’s commitment to identifying urgent needs and responding to specific needs in communities and public institutions.
The latest intervention, she said, formed part of the company’s longstanding CSR programme, which has supported various sectors, including healthcare, education and community development.
She explained that the company’s approach was to identify areas of need, provide appropriate assistance and subsequently monitor the impact of its interventions, adding, “We assess, then we donate, and then we monitor.”
According to her, the monitoring component of the programme was important to ensure that resources committed to CSR projects were properly utilised and that beneficiaries continued to derive value from them.
Ejiofor said the company had maintained its CSR activities for several years, having previously supported government schools with computers and other learning materials, and also offered scholarships to disadvantaged students.
