High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has urged voters in Kano State to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, arguing that doing so would facilitate the return of the presidency to the North in 2031.
Tompolo made the call on Sunday at the inauguration of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Kano, where he was represented by the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services, High Chief Kestin Ebimorbowe Pondi.
He said the North should support Tinubu for another four-year term in the spirit of an informal arrangement for rotational presidency between the North and South.
Tompolo urged Kano residents not to be swayed by opposition candidates promising to serve only one term, arguing that elected politicians generally seek to serve the constitutionally permitted two terms.
“No presidential candidate can come here to tell us that he wants to be elected for four years and actually keep to his promise to stay for four years,” he said.
According to him, Tinubu is completing his first term and would have no reason to seek another term after 2027, thereby allowing northern politicians and voters to rally around a northern presidential candidate in 2031.
He said the movement would intensify its campaign through door-to-door, market-to-market, house-to-house, mosque-to-mosque and ward-to-ward mobilisation across Kano and other parts of the country.
Tompolo acknowledged the economic difficulties associated with the Federal Government’s reforms but argued that the policies had increased revenues available to state governments.
“Yes, reforms come with peculiar challenges. But if you want to change a system, it will come with its challenges,” he said.
He cited increased federal allocations to states as one of the benefits of the reforms, saying the additional funds had enabled governors to execute projects, pay salaries and pensions and meet other obligations.
Tompolo also commended Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as investments in infrastructure, education and other sectors, while welcoming his recent move to the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking at the event, Yusuf said Kano State was fully behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The governor said rotational presidency promoted national unity and urged Nigerians to sustain the arrangement.
“It is my humble decision to align myself with the policies of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Let me say that Kano State is behind the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces one hundred percent,” Yusuf said.
He said the North should support Tinubu to complete the current turn of the South in the presidency, citing the eight-year tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari as precedent.
Yusuf said Kano had decided to support Tinubu’s re-election because of what he described as the administration’s efforts in infrastructure and human capital development.
He urged Kano residents to vote for the APC in the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Sunday Adekanbi Asuku, said the group was in Kano to mobilise votes for Tinubu.
Asuku highlighted federal projects in Kano, including the Northern Bypass, the Kano-Kaduna standard gauge railway and the Kano-Daura rail project, as evidence of the administration’s investments in the state.
He said the movement would continue its grassroots mobilisation to secure support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
