Taraba State Tractor Hiring Unit (THU) says its targeting N7 million as Internal Revenue Generation (IGR) for 2027 fiscal year.
This is as the state government, through its budget office department, has commended the management of THU for hitting above its revenue target of 2026 to 105% compared to ministries and other agencies in the state who recorded below expectation.
Speaking to our correspondent in Jalingo shortly after the presentation of 2027 bilateral discussion to budget committee members, the General Manager of the Unit, Engr. Danladi Shatalis revealed that the secret behind the performance was as a result of teamwork.
He pointed out that the 2026 estimated target was made possible to THU due to cordial working relationships existing among the management and staff with a collective mandate to discharge their responsibilities and ensured that Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment on food security was not taken for granted.
According to the General Manager, THU will continue to stand tall among its peers in other agencies in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security as long as the government addresses their challenges.
Engr. Shatalis further explained that the success behind meeting-up with the above estimated target for two consecutive terms was nothing hidden but personal commitment, pointing to the fact that over N800,000 monthly allowance of casual workers was paid by THU Initiative and not state government.
On challenges faced by THU, he enumerated the underlined factors to include farm implements (tractors), utility/operational vehicles (Hilux) for supervision of the three district zones in the state respectively and the renovation of dilapidated office structures.
Shatalis also appealed to the state government to consider allocation of 60% of already purchased tractors to THU to enable it triple the revenue base of the state.
He further called on government’s attention to, as a matter of urgency, demarcate boundaries belonging to THU lands from being encroached by suspected individuals, stressing that memos to that effect have been submitted to the office of the Governor pending the approval.
Shatalis thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for numerous achievements in the Agricultural sector as well as other areas such as security, free education, infrastructure and road network in Jalingo and its environs pointing out that all those achievements stand tall for his victory come 2027 general election.
