Nextier has called for stronger collaboration and trust between the Nigeria Police Force, other law enforcement agencies and communities as part of efforts to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
The organisation made the call in a statement marking the International Day of Police Cooperation, stressing that increasing security threats that transcend institutional and national boundaries require deeper cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated responses.
Nextier said effective policing in Nigeria must go beyond traditional law enforcement approaches to include stronger partnerships between the police and the communities they serve.
The organisation also highlighted the perspectives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on the importance of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing in building a safer Nigeria.
According to Nextier, its engagement with the Nigeria Police Force continues to underscore the importance of people-centred approaches to strengthening policing and improving public safety.
It said a major component of the engagement was its support for the development of the National Police Strategic Plan, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Reform Secretariat.
The initiative, it noted, is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the German Federal Foreign Office.
Nextier added that it was also strengthening the evidence base for more responsive and accountable policing through the Community Safety and Security Perception Study and The Policing Conversation.
The initiatives, according to the organisation, provide platforms for incorporating citizens’ experiences, perceptions and priorities into discussions on policing and police reform.
“As we mark this important day, the message is clear: a safer Nigeria requires stronger cooperation between the Nigerian Police Force, other law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve,” Nextier said.
