The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global peacekeeping and international security efforts while attending the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
General Musa joined Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led the Nigerian delegation to the annual global gathering at the United Nations Headquarters. Following the opening session, the Defence Minister paid an operational visit to the Defence Section at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the Defence Section’s strategic activities and operational commitments from the Defence Attaché, Brigadier General E.A. Koleosho.
During the visit, General Musa commended Brigadier General Koleosho and his team for their professionalism, dedication and loyalty in advancing Nigeria’s interests and upholding the ideals of both the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The Minister also reiterated the determination of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to restore and expand Nigeria’s active role in international peace and security initiatives.
He stressed that the administration remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations around the world as part of broader efforts to promote global stability, peace and security.
Nigeria has historically played a leading role in international peacekeeping missions, contributing troops and resources to various United Nations operations across Africa and other regions. General Musa noted that renewed engagement in such missions aligns with the country’s longstanding commitment to international cooperation and collective security.
