The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would provide what it described as a physically present, accessible and responsive presidency if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
The council said Atiku would not be an “absentee president” and would remain available to respond to national challenges and take decisions on matters requiring presidential attention.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja when he received the leadership of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), led by its leader, Hon. Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku had consistently demonstrated an understanding of Nigeria’s economic and social challenges and had proposed policy interventions aimed at addressing them.
He cited Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign on fuel subsidy removal, saying the former vice president had advocated a phased approach that would reduce the pressure on Nigerians.
According to him, developments in the country over the past three years have further demonstrated the need for a presidency that is accessible, responsive and capable of taking timely decisions on national issues.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance.
“Nigeria cannot afford a situation in which there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments. The country requires firm and focused leadership,” Ologbondiyan said.
He said an Atiku presidency would focus on addressing the country’s economic difficulties, improving citizens’ welfare and restoring confidence in public institutions.
Ologbondiyan also highlighted Atiku’s recent economic proposals, saying they were focused on reducing the burden associated with rising energy and living costs.
According to him, Atiku has proposed a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined in Nigeria, with a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval and independent auditing mechanisms.
The campaign council’s position comes against the backdrop of renewed political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political groups intensifying efforts to mobilise supporters and communicate their policy positions to Nigerians.
Earlier, the leader of the Atiku Unity Movement delegation, Eburuwe, said the organisation was committed to Atiku’s presidential campaign and would mobilise Nigerians around what he described as the need for a change in the country’s political direction.
Eburuwe said the movement would take the message of Atiku’s candidacy to Nigerians across the country, expressing confidence that an administration led by the former vice president would address challenges confronting the country and improve citizens’ welfare.
He pledged the movement’s support for the ADC presidential campaign and urged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The AUM leader also said the movement would work with other supporters of the ADC presidential candidate to expand his political outreach and engage voters across the country.
The ADC PCC said its campaign would continue to focus on issues affecting Nigerians, particularly the economy, cost of living, energy costs, employment, security and the effectiveness of governance.
Ologbondiyan maintained that the central objective was to present Atiku as a candidate who would remain accessible to Nigerians and directly engaged in the affairs of government if elected.
