PDP mourns Ondo air crash victims, demands thorough investigation

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State, calling on the Federal Government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed on Tuesday, the opposition party described the crash as a painful tragedy for the nation and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, their colleagues and loved ones.

The PDP also commiserated with the Nigerian Air Force and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria over the loss of its personnel.

The party urged the Federal Government and relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the crash were fully investigated, with the findings made public.

According to the PDP, the investigation should go beyond determining the immediate cause of the crash to identify any systemic, technical or operational factors that may have contributed to the tragedy.

It further called for appropriate corrective measures to be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The opposition party stressed that the safety and welfare of members of the Armed Forces must remain a matter of the highest national priority, given the enormous sacrifices made by military personnel in the service of the country.

“Our men and women in uniform make enormous sacrifices in the service of our nation. Their safety and welfare must therefore remain a matter of the highest national priority,” the party said.

The PDP said it stood in solidarity with the bereaved families at the difficult moment, praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
