The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya”, over alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.
The arrest was made on Saturday afternoon as part of the command’s sustained intelligence-led operations to apprehend suspects linked to motorcycle-enabled robberies and other criminal activities across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists.
Ikenga said police operatives recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities during the operation.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement and identify other accomplices,” he said.
The command said the investigation was ongoing to determine the suspect’s alleged role in the robberies and track down other persons who might have participated in the criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable of criminal activities was brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He urged members of the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
