By Stella Odueme

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has intervened in efforts to restore electricity supply to Maitama and adjoining communities following the invasion and encroachment on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company’s (AEDC) C2 Maitama Substation.

AEDC management disclosed in a statement at the weekend that the incident, which disrupted power supply to the affected areas, had been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

According to the company, Wike has been fully briefed on the development and has personally stepped in to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the outage.

The electricity distribution company said it is working closely with the FCT Minister, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to secure the substation, safeguard the critical electricity infrastructure and expedite the restoration of power.

AEDC commended the Minister for his prompt intervention and commitment to resolving the crisis, expressing confidence that electricity supply would be restored as quickly and safely as possible.

The company also appealed to customers in Maitama and neighbouring areas for patience and understanding while efforts continue to resolve the situation and restore normal power supply.
