Following the unfortunate incident in Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo Morris, to the State for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and to put in place necessary measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing any further occurrence.
The AIG, accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command’s Management Team, today visited Bokkos Local Government Area, where he held engagements with the leadership of the Local Government, the Traditional Chief of the area, and other critical stakeholders.
During the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Samuel Amalau, expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for his swift response and intervention in the wake of the incident.
Amalau described the attack as “a tragic and unfortunate act of pure criminality, noting that it was unprovoked.”
He informed the delegation that the victims had already been buried the previous day.
The Chairman however, appealed for, the deployment of additional security assets and manpower to Bokkos Local Government Area to complement the ongoing efforts of the Police and other security agencies in securing lives and property in the general area.
Also speaking, the President, Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State Chapter, Mrs Hajara Yunana, expressed the concerns and challenges faced by women in Bokkos Local Government Area following the incident.
She appreciated the efforts and assurances of the Police leadership, while appealing that “the commitments made should translate into concrete actions beyond mere promises.”
Yunana further called on the Inspector General of Police to leverage modern policing technologies in strengthening security around the affected communities and other vulnerable areas within the Local Government Area.
She urged the women of Bokkos to remain resilient, calm, and confident in the capacity of the Police and other security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.
