Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to peace, compassion, unity and service to humanity as Muslims across the country and beyond commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Shettima, in an Eid-el-Maulud message, extended warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the enduring lessons of the Prophet’s life.
According to him, the Prophet’s life remains a model of mercy, humility, justice, patience and service to humanity.
“The life of the Prophet remains an enduring lesson in mercy, humility, justice, patience and service to humanity,” Shettima said.
He noted that Prophet Muhammad taught that true strength was rooted in compassion, while leadership should be guided by fairness and faith demonstrated through the treatment of others.
The Vice President urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from these values, particularly at a time when the country continues to experience what he described as sustained economic growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He called on citizens to strengthen the bonds of unity, care for vulnerable members of society and reject hatred, division and intolerance.
Shettima also described Nigeria’s diversity as one of the country’s greatest strengths, urging citizens to work towards building a nation where people of different faiths and backgrounds could live together in peace, dignity and mutual respect.
“As we celebrate, I urge Nigerians to remember those in need and to extend kindness to our neighbours and communities,” he said.
He stressed that the true spirit of Eid-el-Maulud went beyond remembrance, urging Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect the Prophet’s example through their daily actions.
Shettima prayed for lasting peace and prosperity in Nigeria, as well as divine guidance for citizens to remain on the path of righteousness.
“May Almighty Allah accept our prayers, grant our nation lasting peace and prosperity, and guide us all on the path of righteousness,” he said.
