Idealab Agency Seeks REA Partnership on Domestic Resource Mobilisation for Renewable Energy

By Jonathan Lois

Idealab Agency Ltd has sought collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to promote domestic resource mobilisation for investment in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

The agency made the request in a letter addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of REA, introducing its advocacy programmes and campaigns designed to complement foreign direct investment and venture capital funding for critical infrastructure development.

In the letter signed by its Director of Communication, Amb. Dr Lois Jonathan, Idealab said the initiative would sensitise Nigerians to investment opportunities in renewable energy and the potential impact of increased domestic funding on the sector.

The organisation described itself as a 20-member consortium of civil society organisations, including Grassroot Bridge Builders, which it said was also collaborating with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

It added that its sensitisation efforts included collaboration with the National Assembly in Abuja through a network involving more than 100 media organisations.

According to the letter, the proposed advocacy campaign aligns with the objectives of the World Bank Group and seeks to mobilise additional capital to support investment in Nigeria’s critical infrastructure.

Idealab expressed interest in working with REA’s Publicity Department to produce interviews, documentaries, jingles and press releases to publicise renewable energy initiatives and encourage broader public participation.

The organisation said the proposed media engagements would also build momentum towards a workshop scheduled for November 9, 2026, in Makurdi, Benue State, in collaboration with the Benue State Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy and Transport.

It expressed optimism that a partnership with REA would advance national efforts to increase awareness of renewable energy opportunities and mobilise resources to support infrastructure development.

The proposed collaboration comes amid efforts to expand access to electricity and attract funding for renewable energy projects, particularly in underserved and rural communities across Nigeria.
