From Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing (JYZ) Federal Constituency of Taraba State, Hon. Ibrahim Adam Imam, has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.
Imam, who spoke with journalists shortly after inspecting a project in Yorro and inaugurating his campaign council on Saturday, said his track record as a commissioner and legislator in the state supported his confidence.
The former lawmaker, who represented Jalingo I State Constituency in 2011, said there was no reason to panic ahead of the 2027 election, expressing confidence that he would defeat the incumbent APC member representing Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in the January 16 general election.
He said he stepped down for Engr. Sadiq Abbas Tafida in the 2023 election following the intervention of Governor Agbu Kefas when both politicians were members of the PDP.
According to him, the defection of Tafida and other political actors from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has created an opportunity for the opposition party to challenge for the seat.
Imam further stated that, while serving as a commissioner and lawmaker, he facilitated employment opportunities for more than 105 youths in Jalingo, established modern computer centres, built more than three healthcare clinics and provided financial empowerment for numerous youths in his constituency.
Asked about his political alliance with the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, Imam described him as a grassroots politician with a wealth of experience in governance.
According to the lawmaker, Bwacha’s bid to govern Taraba State in 2027 was already assured, stressing that the people had waited for too long and that the time had come for the senator to assume office and change the state’s narrative.
At the inauguration of his campaign council, Imam urged supporters and party members to embark on aggressive door-to-door mobilisation for all PDP candidates, with particular emphasis on his ambition to represent Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.
He said their mandate was to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming general election.
While charging local government coordinators, ward officials and polling unit contact persons with their responsibilities, the PDP House of Representatives candidate urged members of the campaign council to draw on his experience and achievements in previous public offices to mobilise support for his ambition.
He said the objective was to secure better representation for the people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.
