The senator representing Enugu West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Ike Ekweremadu has promised to bring about industrial revolution in Enugu State, if elected Governor in 2023.
Addressing a press conference in Enugu on Friday, Ekweremadu blamed the dearth of state-owned industries in Enugu for the retarded economic growth and employment opportunities for young people of the State in the past two decades.
He presented his blueprint for economic development of Enugu State during the conference tagged: “A Pathway to A new Enugu State”.
Ekweremadu enumerated his initiatives to ginger industrialization of Enugu state to include the establishment of two industries in every local government of the State, based on its comparative advantage within the first four years of his tenure.
With 17 local government areas, the implication is that the State will be endowed with 34 different or related industries within his first four years in office, Senator Ekweremadu, surmised.
Also, in a bid to curtail rural to urban migration, Senator Ekweremadu promised to create economic hubs such as ICT city, Auto city, Film/Media city, Health city, etc at various locations in Enugu State.
He stated: “We will embark on massive industrialization, setting up at least two industries per local government within four years of our administration.
“We will create economic hubs such as ICT city, Film/Media city, Knowledge city and Health city, Sports city and Agricultural cities.
“Our ICT hub will run modern call centres, develop various applications and generally incubate our State as a centre of excellence in science and technology.”
Ekweremadu further promised to end water scarcity in the state by building dams across various water springs in the State to serve neighbouring communities.
