Kuje Prison Break: Okocha Urge FG to Beef-up Security in Nigeria

A legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) O.C.J Okocha has called on the federal government to beef up security across Nigeria to clampdown on the incessant dehumanization and destruction of properties by hoodlums and terrorists in the country.

Okocha who was reacting on the recent attack on Kuje Medium Custodial Centre in Abuja, by gunmen, urged the government to do everything possible to restore peace and order in Nigeria.

The legal luminary in Port Harcourt, at the presentation of a book titled “Administration of Criminal Justice in Nigeria: A Practical Guide”, written by Mrs Cordelia Eke, a Director in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice.

According to Okocha “Federal Government ought to know that they should beef up security nation wide, not just directly on jail break, to keep all of us safe from harm or danger, from these terrorists, bandits, separatists etc.

“Federal Government should beef up security in this country so they can live up to what they sworn to do to preserve life and property.

“Even they have the effrontery to attack the President. Security has gone to its lowest level in Nigeria and this country should admit it has failed, otherwise it should do the best it can to restore peace, law and order in Nigeria”

Speaking on administration of justice system, Okocha said “Criminal justice are the root of law justices in Nigeria, because at the end, those who are found culprit for commiting crimes must be taken to court and justice will be delivered”.

Speaking with our Correspondent, Mrs Eke explained that “My book is on criminal justices generally. It starts discussing the criminal justice right from when an individual is arrested. What is police supposed to do at the point of arrest.

“It talks about Investigation, the proper way in investigating a crime? And suggestions on how to make things better.

“From experience, I have learned that what should been good cases, sometimes you don’t get conviction because the investigation was very poor. So, this book tends to give the investigator an idea of what the prosecutor need in other to actually secure a conviction.

“For the Defence lawyer, alot of them do not know details of the criminal justice process. That way they make mistake, they don’t take advantage of opportunities that can lead to the release of their clients”.
