IHGS Alumni association gets new leadership

The Abuja chapter of the Immaculate Heart Girls Secondary School Umungasi, Aba, Abia State has gotten a new leadership which will pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.  

The leadership emerged after a free and fair election organized during their quarterly meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

The Retuning Officer for the poll, Mrs Oluchi Njoku urged the ladies to vote for competence and transparency and not for friendship. 

She assured members that the election was going to be an open ballot election, devoid of any rigging and encouraged the contestants to take the results of the election in good faith.  

The election, which was strongly contested, was transparently conducted. 

It saw the emergence of the following as the new executives members: Mrs Pat Ofik – President;  Oluchi Njoku – Vice Pesident;  Obiageli Ozua – Secretary 1; Maureen Iheaka – Secretary 2;  Golda Ajike – P.R.O. 1;  Dorothy Uchendu – P.R.O. 2;  Gloria Kalu – Treasurer;  Ifeoma Nwawuba – Financial Secretary;  Cindy Ottah – Welfare 1;  Uzunma Kalu – Welfare 2;  Thelma Uzoma – Provost 1;  Ijeoma Kalu – Provost two.

In her farewell speech, the out-going president, Mrs Chioma Okafor, thanked the members of the executive for making her work easy. 

She said she could not have asked for better executive members as they were her support system. 

She also thanked the entire members of the association for their support and loyalty, which contributed to the achievements she recorded. 

The out-going vice president, Mrs Ijeoma Okoronkwo and Secretary 1, Mrs Chinwe Madubike, were full of gratitude and praise to the members for the support they gave them throughout their tenure.

In her acceptance speech, the in-coming president, Mrs Pat Ofik, (who also is the out-going Welfare 1),  thanked the members for the confidence they had in her and solicited their full support to make her tenure successful. 

She said she will run an open door policy and that suggestions and constructive criticisms were welcomed. 

She thanked the out-going executives whom she said left shoes that were too big to fill. 

She however pledged that she will do her best to see that the association is moved to greater heights.

Mrs Ofik also promised to work together with members of the new Exco to see that Abuja chapter fulfils her responsibility of raising ten million naira (#10,000,000.00) which would be her contribution towards the global project planned for their Alma Mater. 

She went on to say that they will soon roll out plans on how to get the funds.

To cap it all, the President of Immaculate Heart Global Alumni Association, Mrs Stella Akwari Ogburu, who is also a member of Abuja chapter, thanked the out-going executives for their excellent performance while in office.

She also congratulated the new executive members and challenged them to ensure that the association keeps moving forward and to also unite all members. 

She reminded them of the task of raising #10,000,000.00 for the global project of their school and encouraged them to set the ball rolling for immediate action.
