The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has reiterated the need for members to adhere to codes, standards and regulations in their operations.
The President, Engr Ali Rabiu disclosed this on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of COREN 30th engineering assembly in Abuja.
He said the event would provide members with the unique opportunity to deliberate on the challenges of incessant engineering failures and their remedies, reflect on the state of engineering and provide vibrant resolutions.
The event with the theme ‘Domestication and Development of Codes, standards and Regulations as a panacea for engineering infrastructure failure in Nigeria’, Rabiu explained that during the 30th assembly, discussions will be focused on adhering to codes, standards and regulations.
According to him, the deliberations would help in repositioning engineering practice across the country, and maximise the immense potential that exist for and in the profession as an integral component in the sustainable socio – economic and infrastructure development of the Nation.
The President said: ” Since the last Assembly, the council had intensified it’s effort at ensuring discipline and harmony in the practice, hence we have revised the engineers’ -code of conduct to embrace all cadres of engineering.
“The code of conduct to seeks to preserve the high ethical standards of engineering profession, which is the highest priority statutes of COREN.
“It is also meant to guide COREN registered practitioners in their practices and ethnical decision making” he said.
