NUJ thumbs up KOMU for academic excellence

Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe University, KOMU Ideato in Imo State within the last two years has recorded academic excellence, prompting the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Imo State council to thumbed up the state government owned University management for their commitments in pursuing and sustaining qualitative education .

The union also passionately appealed to philanthropic individuals and corporate organizations in Nigeria to assist the University management in achieving their overall goal of being one of the best Universities in Nigeria through collaborative partnership of their infrastructural rehabilitations, renovations, reconstructions and transformations.

Comrade Ifeanyi Nwaguma, the NUJ Chairman said this when he led members of his executives and 2023 Press Week Organizing Committee and paid a courtesy call cum solidarity visit to the management of the University, led by Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, the Vice Chancellor at his Senate House office, within the week.

Nwaguma informed the University management that the essence of the visit is to appreciate the University management doggedness in positioning the Institution as an award winning university and to enjoined the management not to relent.

He also reiterated the willingness of his Council to have mutual partnership with the Institution in terms of publicity of her activities and improved admission of students among other strategic issues.

The Chairman further applauded the Vice Chancellor for using trained Journalists as the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hippolite Nwachukwu and SA Media, Mr Bright Okereke even as he expressed regrets on the state of the roads network leading to the University and enjoined the State and Federal governments for urgent attention.

Responding, Prof. Dozie disclosed that the University was established in 2016 as Eastern Palm University and recognized by National Universities Commission, NUC as the 42nd State University and 143rd in the Nigeria University system.

The Vice Chancellor informed that it was then operated as a Public – Private – Partnership, PPP Institution but by 19th February, 2021 Senator Hope Uzodimma as the Executive Governor of Imo State through an assent to the Imo State of Nigeria Law No. 1 of 2021, recovered and re-established the University original status as a public university and re-named it Kingsley Ozuomba (K.O) Mbadiwe University, after a great son of the State and Igbo extraction, late Dr. Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe.

He pointed out that the University has gotten full accreditations in over 30 courses that are run under faculties of Science, Arts, Environmental Sciences, Social and Management Sciences among others.

Dozie highlighted the benefits of studying in the University to includes ; uninterrupted study, stable academic calendar, timely graduation, accredited programmes, impressive facilities for teaching and learning, conducive academic environment, comfortable hostel accommodation and Degree Certificate on graduation.

Other benefits includes; academic transcript on graduation, affordable fees, smart campus layout, safe, secured with amazing ambience, rich students diversity, friendly and accommodating host communities, experienced management team and good students union leadership among others.

The youthful Vice Chancellor further stated ten areas of his administration’s revolutionary achievements as the University’s pioneer Vice Chancellor and commended Governor Uzodimma for his transformational commitments in good and qualitative education.

He lamented on the challenges facing the enterprising tertiary institution and solicited for the support of public – spirited individuals to complement the tremendous efforts of the State Government.

The challenges he noted also includes; donation of two (2) 500 kva/33/415 transformer to bring electricity to the University campus, renovation and furnishing of offices and studios for the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and renovation and furnishing of office complex for the proposed College of Medicine and Surgery and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

Other demands are renovation and furnishing of two hostels for the males and females, renovation of the University Sports Complex, renovation and furnishing of the University staff quarters under a public – private – partnership arrangement and rehabilitation of solar lighting system on campus among others.
