Chickenpox outbreak claims several lives in Abuja community

Chickenpox outbreak has reportedly killed several persons at Wukara community near Jiwa in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu disclosed this Tuesday, when he took medical outreach to over 1,000 residents of the area.

This is contained in a statement issued by senior special Assistant (media and public affairs) to the chairman of AMAC, Kinsley Madaki.

Though the statement didn’t not mentioned the number of lives lost to the disease.

Maikalangu who was represented by the supervisory councillor for health, Tunji Faoye, said the medical outreach was as a result of the resurgence of Chicken pox in Wukara and other communities which is aptly considered as an emergency

The statement read’ “We thank AMAC Primary Health Care Department for their swift response to the plight of our people here in Wukara, who were affected by the unfortunate outbreak of Chicken Pox.

“Here in AMAC, the need to be precautious becomes very imperative due to the influx of people daily from all parts of the country.

“We therefore lament the outbreak of chicken pox recently that befell Wukara and other communities where several households were affected and so many lives were lost. The impact of this calamity has left so many in fear. It is an unfortunate situation and we pray that such will never repeat again.

“To us in the Council, this outbreak is becoming one too many and a permanent solution is urgently needed to prevent further occurrence. I hereby appeal to our people to maintain a healthy life style by sleeping in well ventilated houses”

On his part, the village head of Wukara, Ibrahim Dalhatu, expressed happiness with the medical outreach, saying it will help to curb any form of disease outbreak in the community.
