Presidency confirms imminent sack of non-performing Ministers

* Says he’s received performance reports

By Chesa Chesa

President Bola Tinubu is quietly drawing up a list of underperforming Ministers and members of his cabinet to sack very soon, the Presidency confirmed on Wednesday.

The imminent cabinet reshuffle may happen as soon as October 1st, 2024 and later but “he will surely do it”.

This was disclosed to State House correspondents during a press briefing by presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and the Senior Special Assistant (Digital Communication and Engagement) to the President, Mr. O’tega Ogra, at the Aso Rock Villa.

Onanuga said: “The President has expressed his desire to the shuffle the cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether he’s going to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it.

“He has not given us any timeline when he wants to do it, but has expressed his plan he wants to do it.”

On his part, Ogra added that President Tinubu already had some reports on the performance of the cabinet members and these would determine those to be affected by the cabinet shake-up.

“We also need to realize that the President’s decision to be reshuffle is also based on empirical evidence.

“He said it during the retreat for the ministers that he was going to have periodic reviews, and the decisions or what is extracted from these reviews will be used to make that final decision.

“I know he’s gotten a couple of reports, and as Mr Onanuga has said. when he’s ready to do that, I believe he will”, he stated.

The official confirmation of a cabinet shake-up comes after months of speculation since Tinubu’s first year anniversary in office, as Nigerians grumble over the need for better governance performance amidst economic challenges.
