Matawalle earns high praise in ministerial reshuffle

A coalition of 774 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has commended the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for his significant contributions to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, following his retention in the cabinet reshuffle initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The spokesperson for the group, Idoko Attah, highlighted Matawalle’s deep understanding of Nigeria’s security dynamics, emphasizing his ability to bring stability to some of the country’s most troubled regions.

According to Attah, the minister’s leadership has set a new standard in the fight against insecurity.

“The records in the fight against insecurity are massive, and no one can deny that,” Attah said, referencing successes under Matawalle’s leadership, including the neutralization of high-profile criminal figures like the notorious Halilu Sububu.

Attah also noted that the issue of oil theft, which has plagued Nigeria for years, has significantly decreased under Matawalle’s watch. Additionally, he pointed to the reduction in violent activities by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which had previously claimed the lives of security personnel.

“Matawalle has done more in a short period than previous administrations achieved in eight years. That’s why we find him worthy,” Attah stated, underscoring the minister’s impact on national security.

The CSOs further lauded Matawalle for strengthening the Nigerian armed forces, noting that his strategic policies and partnerships with both local and international security stakeholders have bolstered the country’s defense capacity.

The group also emphasized Matawalle’s commitment to the welfare of military personnel, ensuring their service and sacrifices are adequately recognized and rewarded.

“He’s ensured our forces are not only prepared for their duties but also appreciated for their sacrifices,” Attah added.

The coalition stressed that Matawalle’s continued presence in the cabinet is a testament to his importance in shaping Nigeria’s defense strategy. His leadership during critical moments has earned him the respect of his peers and the trust of the Nigerian people.

“As we look forward, we are confident that Minister Matawalle will continue to guide Nigeria towards a more secure future,” Attah concluded, expressing optimism about the minister’s role in driving sustainable security reforms.

The ongoing cabinet reshuffle, aimed at enhancing governance, has affected several key ministries. Matawalle’s retention, however, is seen as recognition of his efforts in stabilizing the nation’s security landscape—a crucial focus of the Tinubu administration.
