By Titus Mangut

The Ministry of Lands and Urban Development has taken a significant step towards creating a sustainable and resilient future through the design of a comprehensive Master Plan for the newly established Federal College of Education Technical in Keana, Nasarawa State.

The plan, designed by highly experienced and knowledgeable town planners, incorporates cutting-edge technology and innovative strategies to reduce disaster risks and promote environmental sustainability. The plan prioritizes inclusivity, accessibility, and economic growth, stimulating job opportunities and contributing to the community’s prosperity.

Governor Sule’s unwavering support for the establishment of the Federal College of Education in Keana is evident in his proactive approach to facilitating the institution’s immediate takeoff. This dedication is exemplified through the allocation of a temporary site and the provision of title documents for the permanent site, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring the successful establishment of the college.

The Keana community were overwhelmed with joy for the establishment of the college and donated land free to the state government. The state governor then presented the title documents of the land to the federal government. After the donation of the land, the Ministry embarked on the designing of the site development and master plan by engaging all critical stakeholders. The host community, apart from land donation, played a crucial role in supporting the project, creating an enabling environment for the technical staff to visit the proposed site and develop the plan.

The paramount ruler, state commissioner of humanitarian service, and other stakeholders from Keana visited the Ministry to express their readiness to support the plan’s immediate development and issuance of title documents. The Federal College of Education Technical in Keana has a total land area of 501.450Ha, with 275.54Ha allocated for development, including a college farm, and 157.75Ha for future development. The Master plan is in five phases and will cost the institution about 25 billion naira as at today to implement fully the 25-year master plan, with the implementation phases every five years.

Adopting a master plan is crucial for tertiary institutions in Nasarawa State, as it serves as a roadmap for future development and growth. By implementing a comprehensive master plan, institutions and related organizations can ensure better and sustainable development, leading to improved outcomes and a brighter future for students and the community.

The Ministry of Lands and Urban Development’s modest contributions to the establishment of the Federal College of Education Technical in Keana have provided the foundation for infrastructural development in the area. This groundwork has paved the way for further growth and development, demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the community and promoting sustainable development. The Ministry’s efforts have had a ripple effect, inspiring other stakeholders to invest in the area and contributing to the overall growth and development of Keana and Nasarawa State in general.
