The Chairman of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri has described air Transportation as the fastest and safest means of transportation and commended State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for the priority he gave the renovation and reconstruction of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke.
The Committee Chairman equally appreciated the commissioner for Aviation Dr Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu for the upliftment and maintenance culture adopted at the airport especially the reconstruction of the run way at the airport describing it as the largest airport in sub –Sahara Africa.
Hon Abiri Godwin who represents Izzi West Constituency gave these commendations when the Public Accounts Committee was interfacing with the Ministry of Aviation at the Assembly Complex where he poured encomiums on the wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru for pulling the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the vice President and wives of the other State Governors to Ebonyi State in this year’s women day celebration during which the newly runway of the airport was commissioned.
He equally commended the activities of BERWO Programmes of the wife of the Governor which he said has imparted positively on the lives of the rural women and less privileges in the society.
The Committee Chairman concluded by extolling the ingenuity of the commissioner for Aviation with her activities at the International Airport Onueke and will like the commissioner to furnish the Committee with the challenges and the inflow and outflow of cash so as to know where interventions will come in.
Responding, the Commissioner for Aviation, Dr Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu said that to make the operations of the airport more efficient, the runway was asphalted, the leaking roof of the airport terminal building was repaired, traffic control equipments were procured and installed while the police station and the Internal prison were equally rehabilitated.
She appreciated the committee but lamented that Transportation of the workers to the office remains her major problem as very soon collaborators like Berlin and Dubai will soon send thier aircraft to the airport.
Dr Mrs Obichukwu revealed that full operations will commence at the airport by December 2024.
