Christmas : Achi community in New York, New Jersey felicitate the rural poor

The less privileged and the very poor indigents in the twelve autonomous communities of Achi town, Oji River local government area of Enugu state will surely have some food on the table for this year’s Christmas season.

This stems from the fact that some concerned citizens of the town, residing in New York and New Jersey, United States of America, donated bags of rice to impact on their well being in view of the prevailing economic hardship in the country, which has equally skyrocketed the cost of basic food commodities.

Dr Ogonna Orjiekwe, who stood in for Dr. Emeribe, the current President of association, distributed the commodities to representatives from the twelve autonomous communities at his house,Isikwe-Achi,on Monday, December 23. He said the strategy was to avoid stampede.

According to him, the largesse is their own initiative of giving back to the society,most especially their immediate community of origin.

He revealed that the association of Achi indigenes living in New York and New Jersey, over the years have been initiating and executing projects meant to better the lots of the rural poor in the villages.

He mentioned free medical services with volunteer Medical team from United States of America, courtesy of his uncle,Dr Williams Orjiekwe,has been institutionalized and gave birth to the establishment of a health center at Isikwe-Achi,where the rural dwellers receives free medical services,every Saturday.

He disclosed he was the immediate past president of Enugu state indigenes living in United States, and was able to make inputs to renovation of many schools in various parts of Enugu state during his tenure.

Also as part of his home coming, he is leading a group of concerned citizens to contribute their quota in upgrading the physical infrastures at Corpus Christi College Achi and Model Comprehensive College, Isikwe Achi.
