Abbanobi -Eku Onyekachi, Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies. He made the remarks at the 2nd Police Award and Commendation ceremony held in Abuja recently.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, emphasized the importance of modern tools, continuous training, intelligence-led strategies, and community partnership in policing. He assured that his administration will continue to invest in cutting-edge equipment, technological support, capacity building programs, and welfare schemes to enhance professional efficiency and boost morale among police officers.

The President urged police officers to uphold the rule of law, protect citizens’ rights, and reject misconduct and corruption. “The power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection,” he said, adding that officers must be guided by the highest standards of accountability and professionalism.

Tinubu congratulated award recipients, saying they had made the nation and their families proud. He urged them not to rest on their laurels but to use the recognition as a spur to greater heights.

Senate President Akpabio announced a personal donation of N5 million to the family of late Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aniedi Cecilia Udoh, a recipient of the Community Policing Advocate of the Year 2024 award. Akpabio also highlighted his past support for the police, including providing 350 jeeps and armored personnel carriers, and assured that the National Assembly will continue to appropriate funds to improve police welfare and strength.

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun emphasized that the transformation of the Nigeria Police Force is a daily commitment that requires partnership with the Nigerian people. He noted that the occasion is not just about celebration but about legacy and the transformational nature of policing.
