NYA Cautions Against APC Moves To Weaken Opposition Ahead 2027

The National Youth Alliance has called for urgent measures to stop alleged moves by the All Progressives Congress(APC ),to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group’s Youth President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson.

The statement followed a planned press conference by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders over developments within the African Democratic Congress.

The NYA said while political dialogue remained important, Nigeria required more than “routine press briefings and political formalities” at a critical time.

According to the group, millions of Nigerians, particularly youths, are grappling with insecurity, economic hardship and a growing sense of abandonment.

It stressed that leadership must rise beyond statements and demonstrate courage, sacrifice and genuine solidarity with the people.

“We challenge both the leadership in power and the opposition to move beyond mere press conferences and embrace bold, unifying actions that resonate with the realities of Nigerians,” the statement read.

The alliance urged political leaders to consider peaceful national protests, collective prayers and visible personal sacrifices to restore public confidence.

It warned that anything short of such measures risked being perceived as political routine rather than purposeful leadership.

The group also expressed concern over what it described as the lack of unity among political actors in addressing critical national challenges, especially insecurity and the protection of lives.

“The truth must be told: many of our political leaders, both in government and in opposition, have lost direction,” it added.

The NYA, however, called for the emergence of a new generation of leaders committed to selfless service and prioritising the welfare of citizens above political interests.

“The youth of this nation are watching. The time to act is now,” the statement concluded.
