A non-governmental organisation, PATH TO FOLLOW: Basic Moral and Civic Knowledge Project, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has distributed prizes, gifts and paid school charges for outstanding students in selected schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The initiative, which took place at the Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Gwarimpa and Life Camp, Abuja, was part of efforts to promote moral values, civic responsibility and road safety awareness among students.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Project Coordinator of PATH TO FOLLOW, Chikezie Allwell Chinkata, emphasised the importance of instilling moral and civic education in young people. He noted that such programmes play a crucial role in curbing juvenile delinquency and shaping responsible future citizens.
According to him, the outreach followed a series of lectures delivered to students on moral values, road safety and general civic responsibilities. The lectures were organised by the FRSC Life Camp Command’s Road Safety Club in partnership with the NGO.
In her remarks, the FRSC Unit Commander, Life Camp, Abuja, Assistant Corps Commander Laraba J Shanwa, urged students to put into practice the road safety lessons they had learned. She also called on parents to lead by example, particularly by discouraging underage driving and adhering strictly to traffic regulations.
Shanwa, who was represented at the event by Deputy Route Commander David’s Peter, expressed optimism that sustained sensitisation would help reduce accidents involving students both within and outside school environments.
Students who benefited from the programme expressed appreciation for the recognition and support, describing the initiative as both motivating and enlightening.
Also speaking, the principals of the participating schools, Mr. Francis Nnananwa Nwachukwu (Junior Secondary School, Gwarimpa) and Mr. Ajayi Abubakar (Senior Secondary School, Life Camp), commended the organisers for the initiative. They called for sustained collaboration and more programmes that combine education with practical support for students.
