The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with host communities to protect critical electricity transmission infrastructure, following a courtesy visit by the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA) to its Kaduna Regional Office.
The meeting, according to a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Thursday,
focused on enhancing the existing partnership between TCN and the Afaka community, promoting peaceful coexistence, and encouraging greater community participation in safeguarding transmission facilities while supporting sustainable development.
Speaking during the engagement, the General Manager (Transmission), Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur S. Fada, said TCN remains committed to maintaining open communication, mutual respect and continuous collaboration with host communities.
According to him, the company’s community engagement strategy is designed to build confidence, address concerns through dialogue and encourage communities to play an active role in protecting critical power infrastructure for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Secretary-General of the United Progressive Youth of Afaka (UPYA), Abdulhafiz Yahya, commended TCN for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and sustained engagement with the community.
He pledged the group’s continued support in protecting transmission installations, describing the partnership as beneficial to both the Afaka community and Nigeria’s electricity network.
TCN noted that the visit reflects the positive impact of its sustained stakeholder engagement and sensitisation programmes, which have continued to foster cordial relationships with communities hosting transmission infrastructure across the country.
The company added that its community outreach initiatives have encouraged residents to regard transmission installations as shared national assets requiring collective ownership and protection against vandalism and other threats.
According to TCN, strong partnerships with host communities remain critical to securing transmission infrastructure, reducing cases of vandalism and ensuring a more reliable electricity transmission system nationwide.
