The newly inaugurated Benue State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Solomon Iorpev, has rallied voters in his immediate constituencies, Konshisha and Jechira, to support Governor Hyacinth Alia’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Iorpev made the call in Makurdi at a reception organised in his honour by friends, associates and well-wishers following his swearing-in and appointment by Governor Alia.
Describing Alia as a leader with good intentions for Benue, the commissioner urged the people to support the governor’s second-term bid.
“Alia has good intentions for Benue. Support him to succeed in his second-term bid,” he appealed.
Iorpev also solicited the people’s prayers and support as he assumed his new responsibility, pledging to serve all sections of the state without discrimination.
“I’m for Konshisha, I’m for Jechira, I’m for all,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, congratulated Iorpev, describing his appointment as “a classic case of placing a round peg in a round hole.”
Ugber said Iorpev’s experience as a veteran journalist, understanding of the media industry, intellectual depth and commitment to public service had prepared him for the strategic responsibility.
He expressed confidence that the appointment would strengthen the Ministry of Information and Orientation and deepen the relationship between government, the media and the people.
The NUJ chairman said effective information management, responsible communication and strategic public orientation were critical to good governance, expressing optimism that Iorpev would deploy his experience to reposition the ministry and effectively communicate the policies, programmes and achievements of the Alia administration.
Ugber, on behalf of the union, pledged journalists’ support and cooperation to enable the commissioner succeed, while advocating a stronger partnership to promote professional journalism and effective public communication.
Until his appointment, Iorpev served as Technical Adviser to Governor Alia on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication and as Director-General of the Benue State Signage and Advertising Agency.
