In an effort to contribute to the fight against Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs), including hypertension, diabetes and other related disease, the Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON), has concluded plans to hold a national discourse and book presentation, titled: A Review of Non-Communicable Diseases in Nigeria, to the public.
A Press Statement by the Executive Secretary of HERFON, Dr Celestine Okorie, revealed that the book presentation and national discourse, accompanied by free health screening, will take place on Thursday, October 2026, in Abuja.
The statement revealed that the free health screening initiative is aimed at promoting awareness on the importance of screening and early detection in preventing and managing NCDs, especially hypertension, diabetes and other diseases with associated issues of stroke and sudden death syndromes.
While noting that the event is aimed at bringing together health professionals and key stakeholders to examine the burden of NCDs and issues surrounding their prevention, management and control in the country, Dr Okorie disclosed that the book was published under the HERFON’s National Health Review series.
“The event is part of efforts to promote evidence-based discussions and strengthen understanding of health challenges requiring sustained attention from policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers and other stakeholders,” HERFON, noted.
The Foundation said: “Having watched developments especially, in recent times as the complications of NCDs are causing havoc on our population, especially the middle aged when their contributions to family, community and national development is greatly needed, and the seeming uncoordinated institutional/national response to the epidemic of “slumping and dying” among many other catastrophic consequences of NCDs, we decided to undertake this initiative.
“Again, this is not a fundraising or commercial event but our modest public effort for public good, to draw the attention of our country to an imploding health challenge.”
