Digital economy panacea for economic growth- Pantami

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has enumerated the goals of a digital economy and restated the Ministry’s efforts in enhancing the nation’s transition towards a digital economy to boost national development.

Pantami made this known at weekend during a media parley with members of the Nigerian Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA).

The Minister who stressed on the need to position Nigeria for the gains of digital economy recalled the eight pillars of the policy which include developmental Regulation, Digital Literacy and Skills, Solid Infrastructure, Service Infrastructure, Promotion of Digital Services, Software Infrastructure, and Digital Society and Emerging Technologies harped towards digital innovation and digital entrepreneurship to aid increase National GDP, and a robust digital economy.

He averred that the Federal Government has redesigned and repositioned the Ministry to develop and implement a national digital economy strategy, that will yield an efficient, effective and digitally compliant citizens, thus called for digital literacy, skills, and training of personnel for all sectors.

He further tasked the youths on skill acqusition as according to him certificates with skills triggers innovation and springs forth potential employers rather than potential employees.

Pantami who frowned on prevalence of fake news in the country, encouraged Nigerians to use the social media to support the digital economy by engaging it to achieve legitimate economic prosperity rather than for the promotion of division and hatred among the people of Nigeria

“Let us use our skills positively to promote digital economy because the World Economic Forum (WEF) has predicted that by 2022, 60 percent of the world economy will be digital,” he said.
