As part of this year Arugungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, a symposium on quiz, and essay writing competition has been organised by the Kebbi State Government incollaboration with UNESCO
The programme which took place at Presidential Lodge Birnin Kebbi involved different cultural displayed from different States and also not fewer than three schools from three States.
Delivery his key note address the Sultan of Sokoto who was represented by the Waziri Sokoto Prof. Jinadu Sambo said that the occasion has brought together students, teachers, academics, leaders and people from all walks of life in education and other sectors.
” I see i will be recalled that a competition like this at the Emirate level took place towards the last quarter of 2019 organised locally by the Kabawan Kanta Development Forum which his Royal Highness, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, CON, intimated the Sultan of Sokoto about the event” he added.
He said that the idea of the event should be supported in the interest of promoting inter-state unity particularly in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
“I understand that today’s event is the culmination of those efforts and exchange of ideas between Argungu Emirate and the Sokoto Sultanate Council which is a highly welcomed idea” he said.
He explained further that the sultan his in full support of the Sultanate Council in this event because it is a partnership which will help remind us of the history behind initiating of the Argungu Fishing Festival since 1934, adding that the historic event tremendously helped to create more relationship between Sokoto and Kebbi State
“I also understand that a number of sponsors namely UNESCO, the National Communications Commission, the National Council for Arts and Culture, Peak Milk Plc, etc., have either sponsored or proposed to sponsor the different aspects of the event all aimed at promoting knowledge, education and unity in our three states” he said.
In his remarked, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Basic and Education Alhaji Mohammed Magawata Aliero said that the competition has bringing colour to the event, adding that they invited schools from three states to participate in the programme.
