The Commissioner of Health and Hospital services in Niger state Mohammed Makunsidi says a driver who tested positive to covid-19 positive has escaped from isolation centre in Bida, the headquarters of the local government area of the state, but said intensified search for his whereabouts has been fully activated
The commissioner who stated this during a press briefing in Minna disclosed that health care officials from the ministry have been deployed to track the suspect and to also ensure that he is taken back to the Isolation Centre for onward observations .
According to him , “In Bida, we heard of the arrival of a driver or somebody that is said to have tested positive to coronavirus who was being managed at an isolation centre. We heard that he escaped into Bida town , so we are after him now. Our members of the state taskforce on covid-19 and officials of ministry of health and hospital services are in Bida to locate him and make sure he does what the Nigeria Centre for Decease Control has asked him to do”.
He also disclosed two person arrived Nigeria from United Kingdom (UK) and Canada and proceeded to kontagora area of the state have been quarantined and that they are presently undergoing medical tests on the covid 19 virus.
Speaking further he said a small community of kagara headquarters of Rafi local government area of the state have appealed to the state government to take away one elderly person to isolation centre because of his contact with Chinese nationals working at zungeru hydro plant.
“The man suspected to have fever and sour throat and this triggered the fear by the community and the suspicious that he had coronavirus. “ordinarily this does not fit into test definition. But never the less, because of the outcry of the community, we have to take out the man into our isolation centre at Minna general hospital and we are testing him for coronavirus”, he enthused
