*Insista its preplanned
The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), has condemned what it décrives as “serial and preplanned killing of innocent Igbo citizens by security operatives hiding under covid-19 enforcement.
The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), share in the pains and agonies of our people especially in the light of the on-going serial but obviously pre-planned killings and maiming of innocent Igbo citizens within Igboland by trigger-happy Nigerian police and security personnel since the commencement of the COVID-19 lockdown ordered by the government.
The body condemned in strong terms “the barbaric enforcement measures adopted by the security agencies in the enforcement of the rules of engagement regarding the COVID-19 pandemic”, insulting that it must stop.
They also called on Président Muhammadu Buhari to call them to order before It snowballs to a genocide.
In a statement by the Chairman, ADF Publicity Bureau, Hon. Abia Onyike, ADF listed incidences of such killing in Igboland during the period, stressing that nowhere else in Nigeria did such take place.
The sagement notes that “although this has all along been the lot of Igbo citizens, but the recent ones are executed using the COVID-19 lockdown as a pretext”.
Statement “Barbaric Enforcement of COVID-19 Lockdown and Extra Judicial Killings in Igboland” reads:
“1. We condemn in strong terms the barbaric enforcement measures adopted by the security agencies in the enforcement of the rules of engagement regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
“2. This inhuman and brutal approach in enforcing the rules has led to the killing of more people than the dreaded disease has killed in Igboland.
“3. It is unfortunate and unprecedented that more than twenty innocent citizens have been killed or maimed in Igboland so far while the officially recorded COVID-19 casualty in Igboland is hardly up to four persons within the zone.
“4. For the Records :-
On 27 March, 2020, soldiers stationed at Nguzu Edda, Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi State, killed a young man, Chidi Oji Arua, over altercations arising from attempts to enforce a ban on burials imposed by Ebonyi State Government.
“There was also a case in Nkpor area near Onitsha in Anambra State where a victim, Ebuka Agbaja was killed by a Police Corporal, Christopher Ozor.
“Then on 17 April, 2020, two people were killed at Aba in Abia State (Uratta Junction along the Port Harcourt Expressway and Umuikaa Junction, Aba respectively).
“On the same date, Friday, 17 April, 2020, a young man was murdered by a Police man in Ohafia, Abia State after his colleague jammed and destroyed another vehicle carrying goods.
“Just yesterday, Saturday, 18 April, 2020 there were reports of an uprising in resistance to police brutality in Okigwe, Imo state, but the reports are still sketchy.
“In view of all these callous assaults on our people, ADF calls on President Mohammadu Buhari to call the Nigerian security agencies to order to halt the killing spree in the Alaigbo before they snowball into a genocidal massacre with its attendant consequences for the collapse of peace and stability in Igboland.
“There is indeed a limit to which normal human beings, not to talk of a whole nationality, will be subjected to systematic political, economic and physical annihilation without justifiable popular revolt in aid of self-preservation”.
