From Noah Ocheni, Lokoja
The Atta Igala and Chairman of Kogi State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty, Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni (II), has advised the acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Salisu O. Usman, to be firm, transparent and all-inclusive in the discharge of his duties.
The Atta, who gave the advice when the acting rector paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Idah, said it was through transparency and all-inclusiveness that everyone would have a sense of belonging, and thereby reducing the burden of suspicions and all other intrigues that could arise while in office.
The Atta also advised the rector to be mindful of the name of Igala race in all steps he would take, guide against anything that would bring Igalaland to disrepute and avoid ethnic, religious and sectional sentiment in terms of appointments and other issues involved in the discharge of his duties.
The monarch said he was happy by the news of his appointment and expressed his profound gratitude to Governor Yahaya Bello for considering a young and vibrant Igala son for the appointment.
Earlier, the acting rector informed the paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom that he was in the palace to greet him, appreciate his support and encouragement and to seek his royal and fatherly blessing to enable him discharge his duties creditably.
He told the monarch that he is the first alumnus and the youngest ever to be appointed as Rector of the 28-year old institution, adding that some of the teachers who taught him while he was a student are still working with the institution.
He promised to do everything possible and permissible to justify the confidence reposed in him by the governor and never to let down all those who trusted him.
The acting rector also briefed the Attah Igala on some of the steps he has taken since assumption of office, among which he said was the setting up of a Legal Unit to address the issues of series of litigation in the Polytechnic and to minimise future occurrence.
