Sierra Leonean’s envoy parleys Nwajiuba on state of education

By Felix Khanoba

The Sierra Leonean High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Solomon Gembeh, has met with the Nigerian Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, to chart a better path for the educational development of the country.

Nwajiuba, who stated this in a post on his social media (Facebook) page, said the visit to his office in Abuja by Gembeh was also aimed at working out modalities to improve the lives of our citizens.

“Today. I was paid a courtesy visit by the Sierra Leonean High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Solomon Gembeh.

“Sierra Leone is not just a sister country but a colleague in our progressive work to improve the lives of our citizens.

“We at the Federal Ministry of Education look forward to partnering with the government of Sierra Leone in improving the Nigerian educational sector,” Nwajiuba said in the Facebook’s post on Thursday.

The minister, however, did not reveal details of the discussion with the Sierra Leonean’s high commissioner.

Nigeria currently has over 13 million out-school- children, the highest in the world, even as the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic has compounded the country’s education woes.

The AUTHORITY reports that the United Nations had on Wednesday during the commemoration of this year’s International Day for Protection of Education, said over three million children in conflict-affected states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states are in need of education-in-emergency support.

The global body said about 55 million dollars is needed to address the education needs of the affected children.
