The Federal Capital Territory chapter of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaze Nd’Igbo on Tuesday 18th May 2021, inaugurated 12 sub-committees to that help to pilot the activities of the body in Abuja.
Inaugurating the committees in a ceremony held at Bolingo Hotels and Towers, Abuja, the FCT Chapter President of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, Elder Barrister Onwu O. Arua charged members who were drawn from various professional fields, to use their contacts in the society to advice the executive body on the best means of generating funds that will enable them embark on projects that will be beneficial to Igbos generally.
He also charged the committees especially the Legal adversary committee to use its instrument of legal expertise to come up with a laudable means of dissuading some aggrieved Igbos in the Federal Capital Territory to desist from the act of patronising Police stations any time they have misunderstanding with their fellow Igbo, as such acts breed disharmony and mistrust and eventually enrich the operatives of security agencies. He therefore called for logistic support to the committee members to enable them file necessary intervention processes on behalf of any unjustly detained Igbo in the territory.
Barr Arua particularly tasked the men folks in the association to encourage their wives to be visible and be part of the activities of the body especially in identifying with the Women Development Committee.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Simon N. Okeke congratulated the executives of the association led by Barrister Arua, for achieving the much within a shot possible period in office, especially on the restoration of peace within the association, and called for maximum display of unity and peace among the Igbos in FCT.
Many speakers, who spoke at the event, lamented on the state of the nation, especially on the area of insecurity, as it concerns the Igbo people in Nigeria, and also called for president of South East origin in 2023 general elections.
They bemoaned a situation whereby the country’s security architectures are vested on people from one side of the country, while other components of the federation are neglected, this unfortunate situation, they enthused, has heightened the current insecurity situation in the country.
They called on Igbos living in the Federal Capital Territory to be vigilant in the midst of current insecurity in the territory and the country at large, and asked them to remain peaceful always.
The inaugurated sub-committees include publicity, legal, women, contacts and mobilasation, culture/tradition, finance, market/traders, peace/reconciliation, political and intergovernmental, project, welfare.
