Residents of Enugu metropolis and other towns in Enugu state,totally complied to the Sit at Home’appeal from the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) as a measure to press for the release of their detained leader,Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,who is currently under the custody of security agencies over alleged terrorism acts.
It was observed that even though IPOB did not apply any forceful mechanism to compel the residents to stay at home, but out of sympathy and believe that IPOB is fighting a judt struggle for the Igbo nation,the people complied.
IPOB has announced that every Monday in a week should be a holiday with solemn assembly across Igbo speaking statesvin Nigeria, to draw sympathy for the plight of Ndigbo and divine intervention for safety and release of their leader,Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The AUTHORITY monitor of the Sit at home in Enugu observed that even the government offices were licked up. The state secretariat which is usually a very busy spot especially on Mondays,which is the beginning of a new working week, was a shadow of itself.
Suprisingly, the banks and petrol filing stations were also off duty.None of the vommercial banks along Okpara avenue close to Ogbete main market opened for business The fuel filling stations were totally under lock.That contributed to the limit if orivate vehicles that drove along the roads since many motorists avoided the risk of abandoning their cars along the road,when it runs short of fuel.
Both public and private schools in the state were not left out.There was total lock down and the usual burstlings by parents for school run were not obtainable. Most popular and traffic laden streets of Okpara avenue,Ziks avenue,Ogui riad,Abakaliki road, Presidential road usually with fleet if vehicles were virtually empty, except for a few private cars which rarely drove pass by.
The non movement of commercial vehicles lasted up to 5pm,compelling students who took part in NECO exams to trek long distances to their resoective homes amidst rain drizzlings which started in the afternoon.
The Ogbete Main market,which is the largest market in Enugu state,the Kenyatta market,Gariki market,Awkunanaw ,the Abakpa Nike market,etc were all tiotally under lock and key.
The law enforcement agencies with their official cars roamed round the streets of Enugu to monitor situation reports at variius nook and cranny of the metropolis. Upto the time of filing this report, there was no report of any mishap or violence associated to the IPOB declared ‘Sit at home’ from the police state head quarters in Enugu through the PPRO or from any other quarter.
