Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko on Friday, vowed to ensure that 28-year old Ibrahim Lawal, popularly known as Alabukum, who has been arrested and prosecuted for car-snactching five consecutive times, but evaded justice, rot in jail.
Alabukum was among 156 suspects arrested by Kano state police Command between July 17 and August 13, for various alleged offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, car theft, fraud, thuggery (Daba), drug abuse, among sundry criminal offences.
CP Dikko who regretted that police have arrested and prosecuted Alabukum five times wondered how he regained his freedom, but vowed that on this sixth occasion, he will personally ensure that the suspect face the full wrath of the law.
According to him, “this notorious car-snatcher popularly called Alabukum has been arrested for five times. He would be sent to court, but we could not explain how he regained his freedom.
“This is the sixth time he would be arrested for the same offence; and I promise to personally follow up this case. This time, there will be no way out for him. He must face the music of justice. He must be hailed appropriately.”
Narrating how Alabukum was re-arrested for the sixth time, CP Dikko said, “on June 8, 2021, a report was received by one Amir Salihu, of Hotoro Quarters, that on the same date, he parked his motor vehicle, one Toyota Corolla Model 2000, dark blue at Juma’at Mosque, Nassarawa GRA Kano to attend prayer.
“After the prayer, he came out to where he parked the said motor vehicle but to his dismay, he discovered that the car was stolen away by unknown person(s).
“On receipt of the report, I raised and instructed a team of policemen to sustain patrol across the metropolitan and borders of the state by the Command’s team of Anti Car Theft led by DSP Abdulwahab Zubairu.
“The team immediately swung into action. On the same date, one Ishaq Yusha’u, of Birnin Kudu LGA, Jigawa State, and one Inusa Muhammad, of Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State were arrested conveyed in the said motor vehicle and another Golf Wagon.
“On spot of investigation, they confessed to have stolen the motor vehicle from Juma’at Mosque were it was parked. Two bunches of fabricated keys; two pairs of plate numbers were also recovered.
“Suspects also led detectives to the arrest of their accomplice, one Ibrahim Lawal, a.k.a Alabukum, aged 28 years old, of Kofar ‘Yandaka, Katsina State and Auwal Adam, of Toro LGA, Bauchi State.
“One motor vehicle Golf Saloon dark green suspected to be stolen was recovered from them. The suspects further led detectives to their receiver of stolen vehicles at Katsina State were one Ochinaka Godwin, aged 35 years old, of Abia State was arrested.
“Two motor vehicles: Toyota Corolla Golden in color model 98, and Toyota Camry Golden in color model 98, suspected to be stolen from Kano state were all recovered from him.”
Giving the summary of the major arrest made by the Command within the period under review, the police boss stated that his men and officers effected the arrest of 18 suspected armed robbers, eight kidnapping suspects,10 cattle rustling suspects, seven suspected drug dealers, 13 suspected motor vehicle thieves, five suspected fraudsters, and 95 suspected thugs (‘Yan Daba).
He added that the police in Kano also rescued 14 kidnapping victims.
CP Dikko further told journalists that the police in Kano recovered 10 rifles, 16 motor vehicles, 16 tricycles and three motorcycles.
Other items recovered included five cows, 76 knives, 34 mobile handsets, five packets of Air Conditions, three bags and 26 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp valued at N2,100,000.00.
The Command also recovered 18 cartons of expired diclofenac tablets, 44 packets of tramadol tablets, 33 packets of diazapam tablets, 53 red sun robber solution, and 235 pieces of suck-and-die.
He, however, stated that, “in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, psc(+), NPM, fdc on community based policing and delivery of quality Police service that is based on accountability and conformity to the rule of law, the Command reviewed it’s anti crime strategies.
“In our effort to effectively Police Kano State, we have sustained raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, incorporate stratified community policing
engagements, intelligence-led and visibility policing, rapid response to distress calls, massive campaigns against drug abuse (Kwaya) and thuggery (Daba), fully adherence to the ethics of the force and synergy with sister security agencies and community policing stakeholders.
“I appreciate Kano State Government, the good people of the State, other Security agencies, the Judiciary, the Media, Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Special Constabularies, Vigilante Groups and our Community Policing Stakeholders for their prayers, support, encouragements and cooperation.
“Currently with very low crime rate, stable and peaceful atmosphere in the State, the Command will continue to both formally and informally partner all Community Policing Stakeholders for a more secured Kano State.
“We will sustain the tempo in fighting all criminal activities in the State. Security is everybody’s business and therefore, we urge you to continue to give all necessary support and cooperation.”
