Global Peace Movement International (GPMI) has welcomed wholeheartedly the cheering news of the completion and eventual submission of the Forensic Audit Report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, received the final report of the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Godswill Akpabio.
The group in a statement signed by its President General, Dr. Mike Uyi salutes the uncommon Courage of the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, for being resolute, in the face of outright vilification and frustrating distractions occasioned by his resolve to see out the Forensic Audit, as ordered by President Buhari.
Dr. Uyi noted that rather than promoting the region’s development agenda in line with its mandate, the NDDC over the years became a cesspool of corruption for which many of its past and present leaders have not only been complicit, but have been indicted (in both past and present probes and investigations).
“Akpabio been an uncommon transformer with track records of human and capital development during his days as a governor and a man with high level of transparency, took this step in line with the agenda of President Mohammadu Buhari to reposition the commission for the good of the people”.
“Today, we can be proud to say that in no time, the committees report will be made public and Nigerians will know exactly what has been happening”.
“It only takes a man of courage with the interest of his people to do this. The GPMI is happy with this development and assured the Minister of their support”.
“From records available from 2001 to 2020, over Three Trillion Naira have been given to the NDDC in terms of budgetary allocation and over Two Trillion Naira from Statutory and non Statutory sources have been given to the NDDC, yet nothing commensurate is on ground to justify the allocations”.
“GPMI based on this congratulates the entire Niger Delta region for this remarkable achievement, believing that in a very short while, the federal government will critically look into the report for implementation”
“We equally want to use this medium to called on stakeholders in the region to cease blackmailing Sen. Godswill Akpabio”
He accused unnamed elements in the region and Abuja of attempting to keep the Niger Delta steeped in corruption and underdevelopment by scuttling all attempts to restore sanity to the intervention agencies.
“The NDDC has been under the supervision of the minister before the advent of Akpabio, so the lies being bandied that he manipulated himself to gain control over NDDC billions must stop.
“All right thinking stakeholders in the region are in support of the appointment by Mr President of this great Nigerian”.
