Jail break: Correctional service rejigs NCoS

The Controller General of Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, has approved the reshufflement and redeployment of the directorate heads in the Nigerian Correctional Service as well as over 170 other officers of different ranks.


The shake – up, which followed the series of jail break that has rocked the services saw he deployment of five Directorate heads, 147 senior, as well as 23 junior officers to different states and departments of the Service, the Service noted is aimed at injecting new ideas and promote effective coordination of activities for enhanced service delivery


The Nigeria Correctional Services had come under severe criticisms following the series of jail break at the various centers, including Imo, Edo, Oyo, Kogi and others were hundreds of inmates reportedly escaped and are yet o be captured by authorities


A statement issued Sunday in Abuja by the Service spokesman, Francis Enobore, stated that the development saw DCG MA Tukur, been deployed to  take over the Directorate of Non-Custodial Measures (NCM), while DCG S N Nwakuche, now takes charge at the Operations Directorate.


DCG (covering duties) ME Melchizedek now takes charge at the Directorate of Health and Welfare as DCG TO Oladipupo retires from service.


Also, DCG (covering duties) EA Oputa has moved from the Directorate of Training and Staff Development (STD) to head the Directorate of Inmates’ Training and Productivity (ITP) while ACG LA Showumi who was the Zone A Coordinator now takes over the Directorate of TSD as DCG (covering duties).


The statement said ACG Uche Nwobi is moved to Lagos to take over as Zone A as Coordinator.

The exercise also affected in the shake up are 21 Controllers of Corrections and Deputy Controllers of Corrections, who are deployed to take over State commands and Custodial Centres, while others are deployed to the National Headquarters.


The statement noed further that the  Controller General has charged all officers and men concerned to report at their new posts and hit the ground running, warning that the Service will give no space for indolence that could further compromise the sacredness of Custodial Centres.


He emphasized that the measure is not only taken a response strategy to the security challenges confronting the NCoS, but imperative in evolving new ideas that will set the Service on a higher pedestal.
