From Austine Tule, Makurdi
The Tiv Youth Organization has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency call the Minister for Special Duties and Inter-govetnmental Afairs, George Akume to order over his recent attacks on the Tiv Paramount ruler, HRM Professor James Ayatse.
Akume was qouted to have taken the Tiv Paramount ruler to the cleaners accussing him of partisanship.
He was also said to have used other unprintable names to describe the Tor Tiv during a reception held in his honour at the weekend in Gboko, Benue State.
But, rising from an emergency meeting, the TYO through it’s President -General Timothy Hembaor described Akume’s utterances on the Tiv Traditional institution as unbecoming from a supposedly prominent son of Benue.
While re-emphasizing on the need for President Buhari to caution the Minister, the TYO recalled how the same Akume had humiliated the immidiate past Tor Tiv, Dr. Akawe Torkula, now of blessed memory accusing him of the same ‘sins’ .
It expressed dismay that Akume who had enjoyed the support and cooperation of the late Tor Tiv turned around to castigate him when the later gave the same support to the Suswam administration in the like manner as a father to all.
TYO wondered why Akume who abandoned the state since his innauguration as Minister would sudenly apear to insult the Tiv Nation through his usual un-statesmanly comments, saying such was nolonger going to be tolerated by the TYO.
TYO equally called on Akume to as a matter of urgency tender an unreserved appology to the Tor Tiv and the entire Tiv Nation in order to avert the consequences of his sacreligiouse statements .
The Tiv unbrella your body equally expressed disappointment that instead of rolling out his achievements as a Minister representing the state within the period under review, with regards to it’s impact on those he prophesized to be representing at the Federal Executive Council, the Minister would rather take the path of taking the Tiv Traditional institution to disrepute.
The group said it remained laughable Akume’s claims that the Tiv Paramount ruler played a key role in ensuring his defeat during the last general election maintaining that the decision to vote him out was a collective one by all well-meaning Tiv people who had viewed his continued stay at the National Assembly a monumental failure with nothing to point at.
TYO called on all well – meaning sons and daughters of the Tiv Nation to rise up in condemnation of the verbal attacks on the Tiv highest traditional institution by Akume, which it noted has become his penchant with a view to challenging him to decist from the trend.
“Enough of this nonsense by one who is supposedly a prominent son of the Tiv Nation, the TYO can no longer continue to fold it hands and allow Akume,’s attempt to decimate Tiv Paramount rulers.”
